Translation

I provide professional translations from English, French, Spanish and Italian into European Portuguese.
I also have access to a wide network of skilled colleagues and I’d be glad to recommend someone if you need a different language combination.

I understand how important your documents are to you, so I take great care to ensure that every translation meets the highest standards of quality and accuracy and that everything is absolutely print-ready.

Translation is a highly skilled activity that requires:

  1. Broad background and knowledge on the subject area (terminology, concepts, up-to-date information).
  2. Great mastery of the languages involved (grammar, semantics, syntax, set phrases).
  3. Great familiarity with the culture of the target audience.

Emergency translation

An emergency translation can be a large document that needs to be turned over in 48 hours, a press release that needs to be translated overnight to be put out in the morning or a couple of unexpected documents that need to be handled over the weekend to be used in a conference on Monday.

Proofreading

Proofreading consists of checking your text for errors in punctuation, spelling, grammar, verb tenses, accuracy of numbers, dates, formatting, etc. The original text is forgotten and the proofreader focuses on cleaning the translated text with a “magnifying glass”.

If you opt for the proofreading service, I’ll deliver both a clean, print-ready file and a file with tracked changes, with all amendments highlighted.

Editing

Editing consists of checking a translation sentence for sentence against the original document and correcting discrepancies and errors. It involves checking the translation for accuracy and style, and the translator has more freedom to improve the text in terms of readability.

In addition to checking for errors in punctuation, spelling, grammar, verb tenses, etc., it involves breaking up run-on sentences, changing verb tenses or suggesting words that may be more suitable.

If Portuguese is not your first language or if your occupation does not involve extensive writing, the editing service is probably your best choice.

Website localisation

Website localisation is the process of adapting an existing website to the local language and culture in the target market.

Two factors are involved:

  1. Linguistic and cultural knowledge
  2. Programming expertise

That is why I’ve teamed up with a great website programmer who can put up your website after I translate it, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. I will translate the text and Jorge will deal with all the complex programming under the hood. You’re very welcome to visit his website and take a look at the wonderful websites he has created.

How does it work?

You contact me by email, website contact form, telephone or a method of your choice.

We have a brief discussion about your organisation, the subject and volume of words of the documents you would like to translate and when you would like to receive them back.

If you haven’t already sent the documents by email, I will ask you to do so.
If you have any reference documents, glossaries or style guides that you would like me to follow, please send them.

I will then reply to your email with a detailed quote specifically tailored to your needs and the exact delivery date and time.

Once we have agreed on the terms of the project, I will start working on it.

I will start by researching the subject and terminology used in the document.
If any doubts arise during this phase, I will send you an email with my questions as early in the process as possible so that you have plenty of time to reply.

After thorough background research, I will start translating the text.

After translating the text, I will then print it out and carefully proofread it for typing errors, readability and consistency of terminology.

Finally, I will make sure that the translation is formatted exactly like the original document (spacing, indenting, bold, italics, underlined text, colours, columns, tables, bullets or numbering and graphics or photos).

I will then send you the documents by email and await your feedback.

After receiving the translations, should you require any changes to the documents, please don’t hesitate to ask me. I’ll implement them as soon as possible.

I will then send you the invoice, which can be paid by bank transfer, PayPal, Translator Pay or money order within the previously agreed timeframe.

Now you can take the first step and…
